Training

I will be taking a break from training sessions until mid-August when we will resume to prepare for State Fair. Charles will still be teaching some classes. The dates he will teach are: July 17 and 31, August 21 and 28, and September 4. I will let you know when my training sessions will resume.

Fair Week

This week we will not be having a training class on the west side. The county fair show will be on Saturday and set up will be at 7 AM. It moves quickly if everyone helps and we must start early to beat the heat of the day. The forecast suggests it will be hot that day! See you Saturday!

Training Schedule for May

Here is how the schedule is shaping up for training in May:
Karen continues with Sunday afternoons in Mulvane.

Charles will have class at 6 PM at the 4-H building on:

There is an agility practice scheduled for Sunday, May 3, however this may get re-scheduled so check back!!! There are also several shows in other counties in May, so let me know if you are interested and need the registration info. Reno county is hosting a show on May 2 and 3, McPherson county and Shawnee county are both hosting shows on May 9. Salina is hosting a show on May 30.

Dust off your show clothes!

Hey kids, we have a show coming up! Our first show of 2009 will be the Warm-Up Show on April 25. You should have gotten a registration form by now, if not e-mail me, Momkat4@sbcglobal.net For those of you who haven't been to a show before, be sure to come to our clinic on Monday, April 20 at 7 PM at the 4-H Building. Bring your dogs, but bring a crate too because all dogs will need to be crated for a portion of the meeting. Karen will still be holding her training sessions in Mulvane on Sunday afternoons and there are 2 more training sessions at the 4-H building in April. Charles will be teaching on Thursday, April 23 at 6 PM and I will be teaching on Thursday, April 30 at 7 PM. Keep working with those dogs!

What's Coming Up??

Things are really starting to happen in the dog project at this time of the year! Weekly training continues both in Mulvane and at the 4-H building. This weekend is our big fundraiser for the year at the AKC dog show. If you haven't had a chance to sign up for a shift, please do so at training, or e-mail me at Momkat4@sbcglobal.net Here is how the rest of April is shaping up:

This Week

Hey kids! This week training will be on Thursday, March 26 at 7 PM at the 4-H Building for all you west-siders. Make sure you are practicing with your dogs at home. It only takes a few minutes of practice each day to make a big difference. The first show of the year is next month, April 25th. Registration forms were e-mailed, so if you didn't receive one, let me know at training. We will be having a clinic on April 20th and we will show all of you beginners just what to expect at a show. Keep working hard!

2009 Training Schedule

There are 3 dog training groups in Sedgwick County. Members are encouraged to attend whichever classes best fit their schedules. You may attend all classes if you wish, or you may pick and choose. You are NOT obligated to attend them all! One of the classes meets in Mulvane and is taught by Karen. This class will meet at her home and all meetings are outdoors. The first class will be Sunday, March 15 at 2 PM. She will continue to meet weekly at her home.

There are 2 training groups that meet at the 4-H building. Charles teaches one class and Kathleen teaches the other one. We alternate weeks and the night and time will change depending on whose week it is to teach. Charles has a group that meets every other week (usually) on Friday nights. His sessions are always at 6:00! His dates are as follows:

May 8, 22

Kathleen will be meeting on Thursday nights for the most part. There are 3 nights where class will be on a Wednesday because that is all that was available. She will always meet at 7! The dates are as follows:

Starting in June, Kathleen's class will meet weekly until County Fair. Dates are as follows:

Agility is a separate event with it's own practice sessions. To do agility, dogs must be 1 year of age and must have completed some obedience training. Members MUST participate in set-up and tear down of equipment to participate. Practices are held at the 4-H building. Dates are as follows:

Dog Training 2009

We will begin bi-weekly training sessions with trainer Charles Johnson on January 23rd at the 4-H building at 21st and Ridge Road.
